a lot of times your into a band, or you cant fucking stand a band, then one day you seem em live and it completely changes your opinion one way or the other. way back in the day i saw catch 22 a bunch of times, completely ruined them for me (wow do they suck) or title fight, i really like them on CD played with them 3 times now and they've been garbage live.
on the flip side there are bands you hate, until you seem em live and then you see how they got big (i.e. billy talent, saw em live fucking killed it) and I can think of 2 different kids who've said going in they wanted to hate Caleb, but we won them over after seeing us live (shameless self promotion)
anyone else experience this? DISCUSS!!!

I never liked Four Year Strong until I saw them open for New Found Glory. I still don't listen to them all the time but I can enjoy them now. I just wish they didn't have all the pointless breakdowns.

That being said, I can't think of any bands that absolutely blow live or any important ones.

Fake Problems was a band I wasn't into until I saw them live. This I still am not heavy into them recorded but love them live. My big one though is Bright Eyes/Conor Solo I hated this stuff untill I saw him live and then later saw Bright Eyes (as a full band) and I have been hooked since. Frank Turner kind of applies here for me I mean I like his recorded stuff but when he plays it live it is a million billion zillion times better it almost makes me not enjoy his albums dude really needs to record a live album!

I've seen Ruiner twice live, and they are pretty underwhelming. I love their records, but I'm not going to go out of my way to see them.
mewithoutYou are terrible live. I almost didn't buy their newest record, because when they played 2 or 3 of those songs they sounded like cad camp-fire singalongs. But I ended up getting the record, which is good because the record is solid.
I used to be really into the Blood Brothers. I saw them twice and was right up front and thought it was amazing. The third time I saw them I stood back a little and realized they were pretty sloppy and irritating and I never listened to them again.
I thought Off minor was only meh until I saw them. Though I think that might be because they played songs off their newest record, which blows everything else I've heard by them out of the water.

used to luv heavy heavy low low (hahahah). but they sucked live every time. i also don't see the ruiner and title fight hate. they are some off my favorite bands to see live.
see:
the power went out so ruiner played a song with just drums. probably one of the coolest things i've seen.

Ruiner has been hit or miss for me. A few times I've seen them they were awesome, a couple times they were just so-so.
This is an interesting topic though because I've had some experiences change. I really dig Fireworks on record but the first time I saw them they were really boring. So I didn't go out of my way to see them for a while. Then I did randomly and they ruled, so much energy and fun. Since then I've seen them a couple times and they've also been hit or miss but fairly enjoyable.
Glassjaw was a band that was ALWAYS super hit or miss live, and I saw them a number of times. Sometimes I saw them and they blew my mind; others they were downright boring and shitty (including the first time I saw them).

That drum video of Ruiner is pretty bad ass.
But I don't know. When I saw them Rob was getting winded really quickly, and the guitarists were turned up too loud, which overpowered the drums, bass, and vocals.

I LOVE Owen, but I will never waste my money seeing him live again. He was dissapointing three times in a row.
I used to hate Transit, then we played a show with them and I feel in love.
The Bach Mass in B Minor. Used to think it was kind of boring, but then I saw the Akademie fur Alte Musik play it in Germany and I lost my shit. Laugh at me all you want Tony, but this was mind-expanding.
